Wiper Blades

When to Change Your Wiper Blades

Many weather conditions can and will affect your visibility as you drive.  So, it's important to ensure that your windshield wipers are in good condition when you need them to take advantage of the role they play in your safety.

Regular Maintenance

To maintain your wipers, there are a few things you can do on a regular basis to prevent the buildup of road grime and any loose dirt. When filling you your car with gas, take a paper towel and just wipe off the rubber element of the blades.  This will prevent streaking, smearing and hazing when turning them on.

Take a few minutes every 6 months to inspect windshield wipers for wear and damage and replace accordingly. A good rule of thumb for timing is day light saving time, when many other household items are inspected and checked. Many times, vehicle owners do not replace worn and damaged wipers until the bad weather hits, or their vision is deteriorated to the point where safety is compromised. In addition, straining the eyes while visibility is poor can lead to driver fatigue and anxiety. A regular inspection schedule will help avoid potentially dangerous situations.

In inclement weather conditions such as an ice storm, do not use your blades as an ice scraper.  Let your car warm up, use the internal defrost system to warm up your windshield and consider winter blades for regular rough weather conditions.
