Why Buy Certified Pre-Owned

When you’re shopping for a pre-owned vehicle, what are some of the things that are most important to you?

  • Cost?
  • Year?
  • Mileage?
  • Features?
  • Accident history?

If you’re lucky, a dealer can provide extensive service records and a Carfax history for the used vehicle you’re considering. Or perhaps your buying a vehicle you know such as one from a friend or family member. Maybe the pre-owned car is one that someone else bought and simply decided it wasn’t for them and returned it just a few thousand miles later.

Such best-case scenarios are kind of hard to come by. That’s why certified pre-owned vehicles are a great option for the buyer who is looking to save money by purchasing a used vehicle but who still wants the sense of security a new car offers.

Automakers created the “Certified Pre-Owned” designation to highlight vehicles that are optimal purchase options. These vehicles have been selected for their low miles, clean title history, and excellent condition. Note that some dealerships and dealership groups offer their own certified used car programs, but these are not to be confused with manufacturer-backed programs.

Certification Process

Certified pre-owned vehicles from the FCA group go through a comprehensive 125-point inspection and a thorough reconditioning process using Authentic Mopar® Parts. There’s also the factory-backed 7-Year/100,000-Mile Powertrain Limited Warranty, the 3-Month/3,000-Mile Maximum Care Coverage, 24-Hour Towing and Roadside Assistance, Car Rental Allowance, CARFAX® Vehicle History Report™ and an introductory 3-month subscription to SiriusXM® Satellite Radio. Plus, FCA offers something you won’t find from any other manufacturer: Lifetime Certified Warranty Upgrades.

Many certified pre-owned vehicles also have special financing deals available through the manufacturer. These kinds of special offers are not available for regular used cars and can save you money in the long run.

Certified cars do cost more than their non-certified counterparts. Sticker prices may be in the range of $850 to $3,000 more than a regular used car. You’re paying a premium for peace of mind. But that cost also reflects that some of the work in choosing a used car has been done for you.

How’s That for Peace of Mind?

At Mount Airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat, we can offer you a selection of makes and models in our certified pre-owned inventory.

Whether you’re buying certified or not, take the time to run your own background checks so that you feel that you have the best information available to make your buying decision.

  • Make sure the inspection is current and all systems have passed.
  • Enter the car’s VIN at safecar.gov to check for any safety recalls.
  • Ask for a history report from AutoBuyer or Carfax. If one isn’t available, consider buying one on your own.
  • Visit a mechanic you trust to inspect the vehicle for any problems prior to closing the deal.

And most of all, take time to make sure you’re happy. We know that car buying can be a stressful process, but at Mount Airy CDJRF we want to make it as easy as possible and help you find more than just the vehicle you need — you deserve the vehicle that makes you feel good.
