Many certified pre-owned vehicles also have special financing deals available through the manufacturer. These kinds of special offers are not available for regular used cars and can save you money in the long run.
Certified cars do cost more than their non-certified counterparts. Sticker prices may be in the range of $850 to $3,000 more than a regular used car. You’re paying a premium for peace of mind. But that cost also reflects that some of the work in choosing a used car has been done for you.

- Make sure the inspection is current and all systems have passed.
- Enter the car’s VIN at safecar.gov to check for any safety recalls.
- Ask for a history report from AutoBuyer or Carfax. If one isn’t available, consider buying one on your own.
- Visit a mechanic you trust to inspect the vehicle for any problems prior to closing the deal.
