North Carolina is one of several states in which it is now illegal to leave your pet locked in a hot car. Studies have shown that in just a short amount of time the temperature inside a car, even on a seemingly cool day, can soar to surprising levels. At Mount Airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat, we know that there are many others who, like us, enjoy taking their four-legged friends out on the road. We hope the proper precautions will keep all family members safe and happy.
It is unlawful to confine an animal in a motor vehicle under conditions that are likely to cause suffering, injury, or death to the animal due to heat, cold, lack of adequate ventilation, or under other endangering conditions. Often people think that cracking the windows will provide adequate ventilation to keep a car cool. It doesn’t — at least not to any significant effect. Here are the facts from the Humane Society:
When it’s 72 degrees Fahrenheit outside, the temperature inside your car can heat up to 116 degrees Fahrenheit within an hour.
When it’s 80 degrees Fahrenheit outside, the temperature inside your car can heat up to 99 degrees Fahrenheit within 10 minutes.
How do we at Mount Airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat know this is true? Because we spend A LOT of time with cars! Just imagine how we feel getting into an all new Ram 1500, Dodge Journey, or Jeep Cherokee that’s been sitting out on the lot on one of these hot summer days. While we’re always excited to show you features like power windows and a sunroof, we also just want to let some of all that hot air out of the vehicle.
“Stats do not lie: dogs die in hot cars,” states DMV.org. “So do cats, kids, and videotapes. It is a bit of a no-brainer that you would not leave your child in the car with no water on a 100-degree day! But somehow people think dogs are different than humans. They are: they have fur. You know what it is like opening the door to the car on a hot day. Imagine your dog in there with a fur coat.”
We know that it may seem like second nature to put the dog in the back of the pickup truck and go out for a ride, but the fact of the matter is that it’s not safe.
“Although you may have a pickup truck and are under the impression that a dog and truck bed go hand-in-hand, you are mistaken,” states DMV.org. “Each year thousands of dogs are killed while in a truck bed, mostly from falling out or being bonked by road rubbish.”

And your dog’s habit of hanging its head out the window? While it seems like fun, it too can pose a hazard due to wind speed damaging the respiratory system, tree branches or other road-side growth striking an eye, or even a wayward paw rolling the window all the way up.
According to the American Kennel Club’s Canine Health Foundation (AKCCHF), dogs can suffer dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and sudden death from cardiac arrhythmia. Although a dog’s normal temperature is around 101 degrees, just a two degree internal temperature increase can start to threaten their well-being. The physical signs over overheating for a dog are not unlike the physical signs for a human.
“Panting, followed by disorientation and fast, noisy breathing could signal overheating,” the AKCCHF writes. “Other possible signs: Collapsing or convulsing, bright red or blue gums, vomiting and diarrhea.”
Dehydration frequently accompanies overheating. Severe dehydration may require IV fluids to treat.
“Signs of a dehydrated dog include sunken eyes and dry mouth, gums and nose,” states the AKCCHF. Poor skin elasticity is another dehydration symptom, which you can test by gently pulling up on the skin at the back of your dog’s neck. If the skin doesn’t immediately spring back to its normal position, your dog may be dehydrated. The longer it takes for the skin to return to its normal position, the more severe the dehydration.”
These physical signs clearly indicate that your dog is not feeling well.
Any heat-related condition, if severe and prolonged enough, can result in organ damage. Hospitalization may be required. The AKCCHF notes that dogs kept outdoors or used during hunting may also be at risk. Plus, just because the heat is gone that doesn’t mean that the danger is gone too.
“Even a dog that has seemingly recovered should be examined,” reads an article in Field & Stream. “Some effects of heatstroke, involving the dog’s vital organs, won’t show themselves until the day after an incident. Also, once a dog has had a heat episode, there’s a likely chance it will happen again, even under lesser conditions.”
Cats, despite their love for a nap in the sun, also can overheat. Their physical signs are very similar to a dog’s. A cat’s normal body temperature also is around 101 degrees, but anything over 102.5 can become threatening. Kittens are more susceptible to overheating that adolescent or adult cats. You may not take your cat for a ride on the regular, but it’s worth remembering cats-in-cars safety tips for trips to the vet or moving.
“Some cats will hop in a car like a dog. But this is rare, and most likely, to ensure Fluffy is at least somewhat comfortable, you’ll need to put her in an appropriate-sized carrier,” states DMV.org. “She may not like it; she may meow to a decibel that is painful. She may even avoid you for days afterward in protest, but the carrier will safely transport her.”
And don’t forget that pets CAN get sunburned! Animals with pale skin, particularly those with white fur, can burn just like humans. A bit of sunscreen on the tips of the ears or a pink nose is okay to apply — just choose a sunscreen you would be willing to put on yourself or your child. Consumer Reports offers a sunscreen buying guide online.
Do you know what to do if your pet does have a heat-related illness?
If possible, take your pet’s temperature. Using a rectal thermometer, obtain a reading and report the information to your vet.
Cool your pet down. Damp towels over a dog’s neck, under its armpits, and between his hind legs can start the cooling process. Pour cool water over a dog’s ears and on its paws also helps. If you’re outside, make use of bodies of water like streams or lakes.
Provide cold water to drink. Never force an animal to drink as it may result in choking. You can however gently pour cold water over an animals’ mouth and tongue. Don’t give ice! Ice may cause a shock to the system.
Head to the vet. Call ahead to let the vet know about your emergency situation. If you’re traveling, seek out an emergency vet clinic. First responders like police and medics may be able to help you find one.
Now that you know more about how to keep your pets safe, why don’t you join us in appreciating a few of the great animal-related car commercials from over the years?

For more than 75 years, Jeep has enabled drivers to push the limits, exceed the boundaries, and not only create adventure but be the adventure. Jeep life is about the freedom to explore, to go anywhere and do anything, to take the road less traveled no matter the terrain. Mount Airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat wants you to have your own Jeep adventure this summer. But before you know where you’re going, you have to know where you’ve been.
1940s – Designed for the battle field, the Jeep staked a claim on honor, freedom, and adventure as a hero to soldiers across the globe. Prior to WWII, the military called for a 1/4 ton “light reconnaissance vehicle” tailored to Army specifications. Only three companies responded — Bantam, Willys, and Ford — but, within a year’s time they collectively produced the template for the vehicle known worldwide as the “jeep”. After Jeep established its name on the battle field, it became an icon that held its values and subsequently earned rank among civilians. Its capabilities and attention to drivers’ needs made Jeep the leader in 4×4 technology. The Jeeps of the 1940s include:
1940 – Willys Quad
1941 – Willys MA
1941 – Willys MB
1945 – Jeep CJ-2A
1946 – Willys Wagon
1947 – Willys-Overland Truck
1948 – Jeep Jeepster (VJ)
1949 – Jeep CJ-3A

1950s – The “Jeep” name became a registered trademark in 1950 to Willys-Overland. In 1953, the company was sold for $60.8 Million dollars to Henry J. Kaiser. Its new name was Willys Motor Inc. The company proudly became known for being the largest production of four-wheel-drive vehicles. These years made Jeep famous for being a recreational vehicle, and the Jeep hit new records in sales. The unique models of the 1950s include:
1950 – Jeep M38(MC)
1952 – Jeep M-38A1(MD)
1953 – Jeep M-170 (MD-A)
1953 – Jeep CJ-3B (Universal)
1955 – Jeep CJ-5
1955 – Jeep CJ-6
1957 – Jeep FC-150 (FC)
1957 – Jeep FC-170 (FC)
1960s – The 1960s brought luxury to transportation. Designed by Brooks Stevens, the all-new Jeep Wagoneer saw incredible refinement and innovation along with the first 4×4 automatic transmission and independent suspension. Along with the new standards for luxury, Jeep increased the power and capabilities in many vehicles. The Jeep CJ-5 and CJ-6 both featured the V6 engine. The 1960s introduced these models:
1961 – Fleetvan (FJ-3/FJ-3A)
1963 – Jeep Wagoneer (SJ)
1963 – Jeep Gladiator/ J-Series Truck
1964 – Jeep CJ-5A/CJ-6A Tuxedo Park
1965 – Jeep J-2000 & J-3000 Series Pickup (SJ)
1966 – Jeep Super Wagoneer (SJ)
1967 – M-715
1967 – Jeepster Commando (C-101)/(C-104)
1969 – Jeep Gladiator / J-4000 Series Pickup (SJ)
1970s – Jeep continued to lead in its technology and design for 4×4 vehicles and introduced the first full-time 4×4 system in 1972 in the Quadra-Trac 4×4 System. The Jeep Cherokee (SJ), a sporty, two-door, full-size vehicle, won 4×4 of the Year. In 1970, Henry Kaiser sold Jeep for $75 million to American Motors (AMC). Jeep continued to hit record high sales, and by 1978 the company was producing more than 600 vehicles a day. The Jeep models of the 1970s include:
1970 – Dispatcher Jeep (DJ)
1972 – CJ-5 Renegade
1974 – Jeep J-10 Pickup
1974 – Jeep J-20 Pickup
1975 – Jeep Cheerokee (SJ)
1975 – Jeep Cherokee Chief (SJ)
1976 – Jeep CJ-7
1980s – The All-New Jeep Cherokee (XJ) was a big step for Jeep and the automotive industry. Pushed by the energy crisis and need for a smaller wagon style vehicle, the new model introduced the first compact SUV with four-doors, the first uniframe construction, and first shift-on-the-fly capability for the full-time 4×4 system. Sales continued to increase, and the legendary Jeep Wrangler was introduced in 1986. In 1987, Chrysler Corporations bought American Motors Corporation. Vehicle models of the 1980s include:
1980 – Jeep CJ-5 Laredo
1981 –Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler
1982 –Jeep CJ-7 Laredo
1984 – Jeep Grand Wagoneer (SJ)
1984 – Jeep Cherokee (XJ)
1986 – Jeep Comanche (MJ)
1987 – Jeep Wrangler (YJ)
1990s – The All-New Jeep Grand Cherokee was introduced in 1993. Larger and more luxurious than the standard Jeep Cherokee, the Grand also brought new capabilities to the vehicle on and off-road. The 1997 Jeep Wrangler (TJ) was very similar to the CJ-7 but used four-link coil suspension and had an updated interior. Sales continued to rise and the corporation merged with Germen Daimler-Benz for $36 billion. The Jeeps of the 1990s include:
1993 – Jeep Grand Cherokee (ZJ)
1993 – Jeep Grand Wagoneer (ZJ)
1997 – Jeep Wrangler (TJ)
2000s – Merging with Daimler-Benz began to prove its value as the Jeep brand produced several new models including the smaller Compass, Liberty, and Patriot. The Jeep vehicles produced in the 2000s include:
2002 – Jeep Liberty (KJ)
2004 – Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (TJ)
2005 – Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK)
2006 – Jeep Commander (XK)
2007 – Jeep Compass (MK)
2007 – Jeep Patriot (MK)
2007 – Jeep Wrangler (JK)
2007 – Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (JK)
2008 – Jeep Liberty (KK)

2010s – Sales increased to an all-time record in 2016, hitting 1.41 million units sold worldwide. All-new models of the Grand Cherokee, Renegade, and Compass were released. The new Jeep models released in the 2010s include:
2014 – Jeep Cherokee (KL)
2014 – Jeep Renegade (BU)
2017 – Jeep Compass (MP)

Sometimes a pleasure drive through the Blue Ridge Parkway just doesn’t hit the spot. The Parkway is beautiful, but every now and then it’s nice to get a bit closer to nature, maybe do a little off-roading. It’s a wonderful feeling: the wildly bumpy ride, mud flying through the air, a tinge of danger all provided for you and your friends. As long as you keep safety first and find the best off-roading spots, you are sure to find this an exciting change of pace.

When getting ready for an off-roading excursion there are a few essentials. First, you must have a Jeep, and preferably a Wrangler. New or vintage it does not matter, there is no better vehicle to take off the beaten path than a Wrangler. Next, is placing safety first. Make sure safety belts are worn by everyone and the driver is familiar with the path. The last off-roading essential is to find the best spots.

At Mount Airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat we love off-roading, and we have compiled a list of some great spots. Find one close to you and see what you think.
- Uwharrie National Forest
This massive national forest is a great place to test the versatility of your Jeep. The story goes that some 450 million years ago these mountains were covered in volcanic rock, reaching a point of over 19,000 feet. Since then the area has eroded leaving high ridges and deep gorges perfectly fit for trudging through with a Wrangler. While you’re there, if you don’t feeling like climbing up, down, or through the rocky terrain, you can drive through any number of the forest’s beautiful trails. This is a much softer ride, but still packs some fun off-roading experiences. Uwharrie National Forest is a great place to take family or friends. Maybe even pack a picnic and enjoy the beautiful views.
- Big Dogs
Some of Virginia’s best off-roading, Big Dogs has been doing it for over twenty years. Not only do you get some massive trail rides, you can also camp. There’s a food vendor, hot showers, bathrooms, and a shooting range. There is even a sandy beach! Even better, all events benefit a variety of charities. Drive any kind of vehicle you like, but for this course any model of Jeep is going to give you the most fun. Especially at this October’s “Fall Crawl and RCPFA” event where you can enjoy plenty of fun drives all benefiting the local volunteer fire department. Check out their website for more details and events:
http://www.bigdogsoffroad.com/
- Red Cloud
This renowned off-roading spot was closed for a year or so but has recently opened back up to the public. If you are looking for some classic stuck-in-the-mud fun, Red Cloud is the spot for you. This mass of land is a mix of flat and hilly forest full of mud pits and trails. If off-roading were family-friendly, this would be the place. Not to say Red Cloud is tame. It’s just a nice off-roading experience where you can control how extreme it gets. If you are feeling a bit sheepish, throw your Wrangler in low gear and have a blast making your way through the muddy landscape. If dangerous excitement is what you are looking for, hold tight and speed up a bit. Red Cloud will have no problem bumping you around. A word of advice for those taking it easy or extreme: make sure and have a way to pull your Jeep out of the mud if it gets stuck. No matter how tough vehicles may be, they will inevitably lose one to mother nature every now and again.
- Potts Mountain
This beautiful Virginia Mountain has it all, rolling hills, open meadows, great bodies of water, and perfect camping spots. It just doesn’t get any better than this. Hop right off State Route 617 at the lower trailhead and find yourself surrounded by massive trees and winding trails. Just be extra careful on this one. You might want to make sure your Jeep is lifted and ready for pits and rough ridges. Also, be on the lookout for washouts and pits seeming shallower than they actually are. This is the type of off-roading for those who have a little experience and have a pretty good idea of what his or her Jeep can handle.

Now that you have some of our favorite spots, here are a few important safety tips:
- Have Someone in the Know. Tell a friend or family member where you are going and when you expect to be back. You never know what can happen, and if you are out where cellphone service is sketchy it’s a good idea having someone know to send a search party. There have been plenty of situations where off-roaders had to spend the night in the Jeep or hike for seemingly endless miles to get help. Don’t let this happen to you!
- Bring Along a Few Trusty Tools. Always plan for the worst. If you get a flat or get stuck there are quick fixes if you have the right tools. Be sure to bring along some thick rope and a few tow straps to pull yourself free. If you need to change a tire, and at some point you definitely will, bring some blocks of wood, a shovel, and a hand winch. While you’re at it, go ahead and pack a first aid kit and some dry clothes.
- Save Some Energy. Don’t wear yourself out before or during the fun because you never know when you might have to walk to the nearest gas station or house. Even if you have someone back home who knows what you are up to, if you break down early in the day you have no choice but to seek help. It’s not a bad idea to pack some walking or hiking shoes if you are not already wearing them either.
- Do a Dry Run. Before you go bouncing down a trail, no matter how flat or smooth it looks, walk it first. There are too many stories of people taking to the trail without making sure it is safe and ended up doing some major damage to their Jeep. All it takes is a fallen tree, a mud or rock slide, even a developing pit to turn your fun excursion into a nightmare.
- Watch Your Speed. So many wrecks are due to drivers taking the trail a little too fast. The tiniest bumps can seem like boulders when you’re moving at even a medium speed. The key is just to keep it slow and steady.
No matter where you go or what you drive, be safe and have fun out there. There is no better feeling than coming home after a long day of spinning out and flinging mud with friends and family. Mount Airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat has some of the best off-roading vehicles in stock, and we are ready to show off what they can do. Stop in today and test drive a brand new or used Jeep Wrangler or Jeep Grand Cherokee. You won’t find a better off-roading companion anywhere else. Happy driving!

From oil changes and new brake pads, to changing wiper blades and getting new tires, Mount Airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat is the place to take all your Fiat service needs. We provide the best service in Mount Airy, NC by keeping your vehicle functioning well. As the only Fiat service department around the Mount Airy and the Virginia border, our service technicians are ready to help you extend your Fiat’s life and enable you to maintain its upkeep.
Fiat’s regular service and maintenance takes top technicians to understand. For instance, some oil need to be changed every 3,000 miles while other types of oil last much longer. Some batteries last up to six years while others are lucky to make it to three years. What’s great about Mount Airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat is that the professionals in our service department will provide you with guidance for all of your Fiat’s service needs, so you won’t have to worry about how long that battery might last. Our goal is for you to come in and see us only for those things you can’t take care of on your own. By taking initiative with your Fiat’s needs, we can work together to save you money and time.
Here are a few important tips for your Fiat from our service department:
Oil Changes
Timely oil changes are crucial to keeping your Fiat running as it should. If the oil is not changed regularly, major problems can occur. We recommend having an oil change every 5,000 miles. Depending on how you drive, however, this estimation can change. If you find yourself mostly in stop-and-go traffic, you might consider changing the oil before it gets to 5,000 miles. On the other hand, driving long stretches on the highway generally wears better on your car and it is possible to go longer before getting an oil change.
Moreover, most new cars use synthetic oil, which lasts longer and works much better than regular oil. Though synthetic costs more (up to three times as much) than regular oil, you don’t have to get it changed nearly as often, so the cost can even out. Your Fiat likely uses synthetic oil and it will need to be changed around every 5,000 to 7,000 miles. Your best bet is to pop in to Mount Airy’s Fiat Service Department. After a quick conversation about your driving habits and a look under the hood, our technicians will give you the perfect diagnosis for prime oil changing upkeep.
Battery Lifespan
There is some leeway on which type of battery you can put in your Fiat, but no matter what choice you make, you can always extend a battery’s life. The average battery usually lasts as long as four to six years, but this can change depending on how well you take care of your Fiat. Here are a few things you can do to extend your battery’s lifespan:
- Store Your Vehicle in a Covered Place: Cold weather especially wears down your Fiat’s battery; so if you have a garage or car cover, use it!
- Check the Electrical Connections on Your Battery: The electrical connections on your battery, or where your battery connects to the Fiat, can erode over time. This erosion will eventually eat away at and destroy this connection. Simply take a stiff brush to scrub the connection clean to prevent erosion.
- Regularly Check the Battery’s Levels of Electrolyte: This step is commonly forgotten but can be detrimental to your battery’s lifespan. Electrolyte fluid located inside the battery can become contaminated with dirt and corrosion, which significantly shortens your battery’s lifespan. The easiest way to check your battery’s electrolyte level is to stop in to Mount Airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat for a quick examination, cleaning, and fill up, if necessary.
- Regularly Check the Charge of the Battery: If you have noticed your Fiat’s lights dimming or sluggishness when you start the Fiat, then it’s important to check the charge of your battery. While there are kits you can purchase to test the charge of your battery, we’ll save you the time and hassle by having our technicians perform a quick check of your Fiat’s battery when you’re in for an oil change.
Wiper Blades
Similar to finding the best battery type for the Fiat, there are many brands and styles of wiper blades offered. You know that wiper blades typically have to be replaced every six months to a year, but you may not have considered how to properly care for them. You can make your windshield wipers last twice as long with routine maintenance. Here’s what we suggest:
- Wipe your wiper blades: Each time you fill up with gas, use a paper towel to wipe the rubberized underside of your wipers. This will take away any dirt and grime picked up from the road and make the rubber piece of the blade last much longer.
- Be patient in cold weather: When you find that your wipers have frozen over in the winter, do not use them until all the ice has melted from the underside. Using wiper blades when they are coated in ice can crack the rubber and leave them ineffective.
- Regularly look over your blades: Closely inspect your wipers every six months. This won’t take long, but it’s important to make sure they are clean and suitable for use. If a rock or piece of glass gets wedged underneath, it can leave a permanent scratch on your windshield. Even worse, if you do not realize your wiper blades are defective and try and use them while driving in the rain, you can run into some bigger problems.
Tires
Choosing tires for your Fiat can be tricky. Price is definitely a factor, as well as overall quality. Before you go spending top dollar though, it’s best to check with the professionals. We can guide you towards the best tire for how you drive. Once you purchase new tires, you will need to do a few things regularly in order to keep your rides smooth and free from blowouts:
- Rotate your tires every other oil change: By moving the ones in the back to the front and vice versa, you keep the tires from wearing down as easily.
- Inspect your tires: Once a week or so, give your tires a quick inspection to make sure there aren’t any nails or screws embedded. These can often go unnoticed for days and even weeks, all the while slowly releasing air and wearing unevenly on your other tires.
- Check your Fiat’s tire pressure every few weeks: If you notice drastic changes in weather, it is a good idea to go ahead and check your tire pressure as well. The preferred inflation pressure is usually listed on the side of the tire and Fiats come with a Tire Pressure Monitoring Telltale Light that flashes in the instrument cluster when the pressure is off. In either case, our technicians can tell you what’s best as well.

Bringing your vehicle into Mount Airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat on a regular basis will keep it running efficiently and save you money in the long run. By letting us take care of your oil changes and tire needs, or just reaching out to our technicians with any of your vehicle maintenance questions, we will equip you with everything you need to keep your Fiat running smoothly. We believe that the effort and care you put into your Fiat (or any vehicle) to make it last, will result in just that—a well-maintained vehicle you will enjoy for years to come.

Chrysler first came up with the idea for a luxury minivan in 1999. The Pacifica was produced and has done well ever since. The Pacifica of today still maintains its luxury status, but a few other things have been perfected: great gas mileage, a modernized body style, and a level of comfort and performance never before seen in a minivan. The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica in Mount Airy gets top marks by drivers and car reviewers alike.
Maybe it’s time to rethink your family vehicle. Because the minivan of today is actually pretty cool, now that it has said goodbye to the bulky, awkward, gas guzzling machines. The minivans of old weren’t much to look at. They weren’t much for driving either. They struggled uphill and handled curves like a canoe. But, because there was dire need for a family-friendly vehicle, the minivan sold well and they could be seen all over the road. Luckily, car companies saw the need for a massive update, and the minivan began to be modernized. Then Chrysler came out with the Pacifica and put all other minivan manufacturers to shame.
10 Reasons Why You Need a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica

- It Comes as a Hybrid. And not only that, the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is the only minivan to offer the option of hybrid. What’s more, this hybrid works so well you won’t even know when it’s operating from gas or electric power. As the Pacifica cruises down the road it seamlessly switches to gas once the electric energy has been depleted. And charging it is pretty simple too. Simply plug it in when you aren’t driving, and when you are ready to run to the store, unplug and zoom away. This gives Chrysler a huge edge on the minivan market and saves you tons of money in the process. Less trips to the gas station always makes for a better driving experience.
- Second Row Adjustable Seats. Sure, just about every modern vehicle has adjustable seats, even in the back. But have you seen any that bend forward when holding a car seat? Probably not, since the Chrysler is only one of three other companies to offer this nifty little bonus. Chrysler’s “Easy Tilt” rear bucket seats easily bend forward so children and adults alike can pile in and out without hassle. Imagine, no more stubbed toes or bruised knees when trying to move from the second to third row. This little benefit is actually quite big.
- Hands-Free Capabilities. What’s one of the most frustrating things about running errands with the kids? You see it happen every day: a parent holding a child in one hand, bags of groceries in the other, fumbling to open the door to the vehicle. And some car companies have created a back hatch that opens with the push of a button or swipe of a foot. This is nice, but the 2017 Pacifica takes it a step further by introducing self-opening sliding doors. That’s right, just hover your foot under the sliding door, and it magically opens on its own accord.
- Equal Comfort Levels Throughout. Go ahead and try to find the most comfortable spot in the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. As much as you move around, the only thing you’ll find is that each seat is just as plush and roomy as the next. Typically, in minivans it’s the third row seating that causes the most problems. Passengers are squished in the back with tiny seats that are hard, rigid, and just plain uncomfortable. But not in the all-new Pacifica in Mount Airy. Now you have plenty of room, plus third row passengers get their own USB ports and cup holders. Whereas before no one wanted to sit in the very back, now your family and friends will be racing each other for that third row.
- Innovative Safety and Storage. The biggest risk with seats that bend forward is that they can pinch or even crush passengers’s feet behind them when place upright. But thanks to the Pacifica’s cantilevered seat design this is no longer an issue. What Chrysler has done is raised the seats a bit so that when they are bent forward or set upright, there is plenty of room underneath for feet to rest without having any contact with the seat in front. Another bonus to the cantilevered seats is that there is not extra space for storage. It’s perfect for a backpack, sack of diapers, and even small groceries.
- An Abundance of Latch Anchors. It is so annoying when attempting to install a car seat (or multiple car seats) and there are only a few places made to hold it. Most vehicles, including minivans, usually only have two or three seats equipped to hold a child’s seat. The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica has up to five seating positions for a car seat, which means you can pretty much fit your child just about anywhere you want. Second row, third row, doesn’t matter. The Pacifica is all about making things better and easier, especially for those driving with multiple passengers.
- Entertainment For Everyone. Chrysler includes its UCONNECT Theater system in the new Pacifica, and this means fun for everyone inside. There are two touchscreens fully equipped with games, apps, and a Blu-ray/DVD player. And what’s wonderful about UCONNECT is that it allows parents to control what the kids in the back are watching by including a “listen in” feature that, with a push of a button, shows on the front screen whatever is being watched or played in the back. Why doesn’t every vehicle have this?! Just another example of why the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is the minivan to beat.
- Easy Cleaning. There is actually a vacuum cleaner built into the new Pacifica. Yes, you read that correctly. Sure, the Honda Odyssey came out with this idea as well, but it’s placed way in the back and is difficult to access. But the Pacifica’s Stow & Vac system is placed right in the second row. This is a smart move since the second row is where most traffic comes and goes, which leaves dirt and grass and chips and…well, you get the point. Once again, Chrysler makes things smarter and easier for us all.
- True Luxury Means Authentic Materials. Rather than the faux wood paneling and cheap plastic pieces found in most other minivans, the 2017 Pacifica holds to its luxury roots. Look as long as you like, you won’t find one piece of cheap material. From the thick leather seats to the soft-touch surfaces throughout, everything feels of true substance. This means you have luxury now, and you will have it years later as well. Doesn’t sound much like a minivan does it? That’s because the 2017 Pacifica is minivan in name only. Everything else is all about breaking the mold.
- Stow & Go Assist Makes Things Easy. Chrysler’s Stow & Go enables all seats in the back to fold down completely into the floor of the van. Gone are the days of having to lift the seats out of the minivan so you can haul furniture. Now, it’s simple. The front seats even move forward automatically while the back ones are being folded in. Then, like magic, the front seats resume to their previous position.
It’s time to stop being afraid of the minivan. In the new 2017 Pacifica, you can be comfortable, cool, and entertained all at the same time. The minivan revolution starts here with Chrysler, and the Pacifica leaves all the others in the dust. Come visit us at Mount Airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram and test drive a new Pacifica today.

What makes the Jeep so popular? Is it the industrial toughness that has been drawing drivers for years? Or maybe it’s the little touches of simplicity and luxury that we find so endearing. Ask a million different people and you’ll likely get a million different reasons for the success of the Jeep brand, and that says something. A vehicle that can garner the attention of people from many different walks of life must have something to offer. Go to any back-woods town and you’re sure to see a Jeep Wrangler with its roof and doors off. Maybe a little dinged up, but still running like a top. In the same way, have a look at what some of the most famous, wealthiest people are driving and you’re sure to see, among many other luxury vehicles, a Jeep.
So, which celebrities are driving Jeeps? And what kind of Jeeps are they in? Luckily, Society’s watchful eye is always turned towards those in the Hollywood Hills. So if you ever have a celebrity sighting, be sure and pay attention to what he or she is driving. You might be surprised at how much these celebs reflect the Jeeps they own.
Lebron James—Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
What does the 2004 Rookie of the Year, multiple All-Defensive 1st Team, and four-time MVP winner like to drive? How about something rugged and tough, but with the capability to finesse its way through any situation, just like Mr. James does on the basketball court. Something like the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. And bright orange at that!
With its custom metallic orange color, Lebron’s Wrangler is difficult to miss. Then again, so is the 6’8” NBA superstar. And much like the famous athlete, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited has quite a few impressive features, such as:
- Hill-Start Assist. This brilliant device allows you to take off from an uneven position with ease. Think of all the times you’ve been at a stop sign or stoplight on a hill. Whether driving an automatic or manual, you know as soon as you let off the brake, the vehicle will begin to roll backwards. You then have to time the pressure placed on the gas pedal perfectly so that you do not give the passengers or yourself whiplash. This can be nerve racking. But with the Wrangler’s hill-start assist, there is no roll, and taking off from awkward positions is no problem.
- LED lights throughout. LED lights do two things very well: they cut through just about any fog and darkness so you can clearly see what is happening around your Wrangler. And they look amazing. The crisp white light gives a modern spin to the venerable Jeep Wrangler.
- Unlimited Status. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited offers some of the best upgrades the company has to offer. Plus the body style to the Unlimited is extra fit with more room, superior toughness, and the capability to be altered and bulked up as much as desired. The possibilities are unlimited with this Wrangler.
Faith Hill—Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
What does one of the best looking and best sounding country music singers like to drive when she’s not out touring the country? How about a red Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Both Faith and her husband, singer Tim Mcgraw, have been spotted driving their favorite Wrangler, and the fact they chose a Rubicon just further proves how cool this couple is.
Why would someone choose a Wrangler Rubicon versus, say a Sahara? Both styles of Jeep Wrangler are great, but for different reasons. Here are a few for why you might go with the Rubicon:
- Advanced Off-Road Features. All Wranglers are created capable for life off the road, but the Rubicon aspires to it. Rocks, mud, hills, this Wrangler loves a challenge. And what’s nice is that even though the 3.6-liter, V-6 engine churns out enough power to pull and push its way through tough terrain, it still offers a nice, smooth ride through town. Its versatility is what makes it so charming.
- Premium Upgrades Throughout. Another bonus to the Rubicon is that you can still get all the same upgrades available to the other Wrangler styles. Leather interior, heated seats, sunroof, etc. It’s all there. With the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon you get the roughest and toughest with all the bits of luxury you can imagine in a Jeep. And all Jeep Rubicons come with virtually endless color options and pairings. Want green on the outside and tan within? No problem.
Ralph Lauren—Classic Wrangler
The American fashion icon and philanthropist, Ralph Lauren, has created his own empire by making good decisions and not being afraid to try new things. He’s also known for his rugged good looks and classic style. So to see him driving a 1948 Jeep Wrangler is no surprise at all. Both are a one-of-a-kind, unstoppable machine.
But why drive an old Wrangler? Is it more than just novelty? Actually, there are many reasons to drive a classic Jeep. And as for its novelty, well that’s just a bonus. Here are a couple reasons Mr. Lauren may have chosen a classic:
- Stand the Test of Time. It’s impressive to hear of any vehicle still running that was made back in 1948. But it’s less surprising to find out a Jeep is still scooting around. You can find these old Jeeps anywhere, and a lot of them need minimal work done to get them running like new. How are Jeeps able to run so long? Rugged simplicity. You know when you see a classic Wrangler winding down the road it must be made well. That might be what we love most about the Jeep Wrangler, it’s undying reliability that has stood the test of time.
- They Look Better a Little Beat Up. It’s not that Ralph Lauren can’t afford a new Jeep Wrangler (he could afford multiple new Wranglers), it’s that no one cannot replicate the look and feel of an old, beat-up Wrangler. It’s big, loud, and has the scars to prove a life lived of adventure and fun. It says something about the person driving it as well. That though he may be older, he is wiser, tougher, and cooler than just about anyone else on the road.
Tony Hawk—Grand Cherokee SRT8
It’s not at all a shock to see a thrill seeker like Tony Hawk driving such a powerful machine. He’s created a fortune doing the impossible on a skateboard and has fully embraced the life of celebrity. What better to drive than a sporty and dangerously powerful Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. Both Hawk and his supped-up machine are cool, relaxed, but capable of doing super rad things. Here’s a couple facts about the SRT8:
- Raw Power. Jeep takes luxury to an entirely new level in the Grand Cherokee by adding the upgrade in trim. And it’s all in the name: Street and Racing Technology in a V-8 engine (SRT8). This is a high-performing, high-octane powerhouse that can trudge through anything. Its 425-horsepower, 6.1-liter Hemi engine moves fast and smooth with incredible towing capabilities.
- Complete Package. Its high performance matches its good looks. Not only does the Grand Cherokee SRT8 have some guts, it also has some sleek design. The round headlights counter the boxy aspects of the body, and the low front-end gives a tenacious look. Inside, everything is soft to the touch. Plush seating throughout with leather and shiny trim pieces mixed in makes for a pleasing aesthetic for short and long drives.

When Fiat began to reinvent itself ten or so years ago, the little sporty cars looked cool and fun to drive. Now, the all-new 2017 Fiat finds itself as an established part of American culture, showing up in film, commercials, and its emblem and car shape recognizable by the masses. And in terms of performance, safety, and comfort, the Fiat has only progressed over the years. So if you’re looking for a zippy, fun drive this 4th of July, come to Mount Airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat today to take one for a spin.

The 4th of July is more fun when you have a cool car to drive. A national day of joyrides, picnics in the park, and peering through the sunroof at the fireworks just isn’t as exciting in an old clunker. So here are five reasons to spend this Independence Day in a new Fiat:
1. Great Fuel Economy.

If you have to do a little traveling this 4th of July, save some gas money and drive in style. There are two engine options with the new Fiat. A 5-speed, 1.4-liter engine comes standard, or drivers can opt for a turbocharged version of the same. Both allow for great gas mileage, offering around 30 mpg in the city and up to 40 mpg on the highway.
Some car critics have noted the Fiat does not have as good fuel economy as a few other compact cars, like the Honda Fit and Chevy Spark, which can both hit in the upper 30s in the city and closer to 50 mpg on the highway. And though these two tiny cars do save a little more fuel than the Fiat, drivers have to consider if they are actually worth it. Sure, less trips to the gas station is always a plus, but when you look at the full package the Fiat offers compared to what the others bring to the table, there really is no comparison. Simply put, the Fiat’s charm and performance outweigh any other compact car, and if you have to lose a few miles per gallon for a better driving and better looking car, I say so be it. Plus, when driving a compact car that naturally gets better gas mileage than just about any other type of vehicle, do you really notice a difference in a few measly miles per gallon anyways?
2. High-End Features.

What’s great about Fiat is that there are so many variations to choose from. First, you have three versions of the car to decide between: Pop, Lounge, and Abarth. With each of these three you can choose to have a three-door hatchback or a two-door Cabrio. And, if you and your friends feel like opening up the hatchback to enjoy the 4th of July festivities, there are many fun add-ons and variations in features to pick from to keep everyone entertained.
Let’s begin with the Pop . This is Fiat’s base level vehicle, but there is nothing basic about it. It comes with 15-inch painted aluminum wheels, Bluetooth streaming audio, hands-free calling, and power windows, air conditioning, cruise control, etc. The Pop also comes in a sport trim level, which has 16-inch wheels and a sleeker, more aerodynamic body shape.
The Lounge is next in the progression and has a little more to offer. This Fiat comes with all the base-level perks (15-inch wheels, power everything, Bluetooth, etc.) plus a 7.0-inch LCD display screen, a fixed glass roof (perfect for watching fireworks!), chrome accents throughout the interior and exterior, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Finally, the best of the best, the Abarth Fiat. This high-end version comes with a turbocharged engine, an upgrade in suspension, 16-inch black alloy wheels, and a slew of safety features.
Once you decide on which Fiat you want, there are even more features to choose from. For example, there are 15 interior and exterior colors, and over 40 extra accessories to look through and add on.
3. Comfort and Quality.

Looking and feeling good are a big part of the 4th of July holiday. On this day we like to enjoy comfort food, wear comfy clothing, and gather with friends and family. And there is no other car that promotes such a way of life than the Fiat. Beyond its numerous features and configurations, comfort and quality are ranked pretty high as well.
Even though the Fiat is one of the smallest cars made (except for maybe the Smart car), it does an incredible job at producing a roomy interior. The front seats are well cushioned and there is plenty of legroom without having to move the passenger and driver seats back too far. Due to the Fiat’s boxy shape there is also enough wiggle room. Head and shoulders can move back and forth freely so that, no matter where you sit, you are comfortable. The seats in the back are smaller and therefore do not fit adults quite as comfortably as up front. Honestly, the back is best used as a loading bay, a perfect set up to carry groceries and luggage. Or, better yet, a box full of fireworks!
4. Safety.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the Fiat a perfect safety score for all areas of the vehicle, except the front where there was some small overlap during crash tests. One of the best safety features on the Fiat though is how it positions its passengers. Up front, both seats sit upright allowing full view of the road ahead. And the Fiat’s quick response and nimble movements on the road make it feel much larger than what the car actually is. This makes parking and maneuvering in tight spaces easier than most other compact cars. All Fiats come standard with dual front, side, and curtain airbags. There is also a driver’s side knee airbag, plus all the newest electronic safety features: anti-lock brakes, stability and traction control, a hill-hold feature, and much more.
Safety features are important in a vehicle, especially when driving on such a busy day as the 4th of July. There will be a lot of people on the road and making sure your car has all the modern safety bells and whistles is essential. And the new Fiat has you covered.
5. Surprising Performance.

In order to offer superior performance without losing good fuel economy, the Fiat likes to stick with a 4-cylinder engine. Because of this, it is recommended to opt for the turbocharged version. This adds a lot more pep, but you still get that great gas mileage. Not to say the turbocharge will turn your Fiat into a racecar (0 to 60 can take up to 10 seconds), but it definitely does not lag behind. As a matter of fact, the Fiat turbocharged might be the fastest 4-cylinder compact car.
When you combine it all, you can see how great the Fiat performs. Its expert suspension and response time, combined with a tough 1.4-liter engine and 15- or 16-inch wheelbase offer a truly zippy ride that is controlled and safe. The biggest difference between the Fiat and other compact cars is that you can feel the authenticity in a Fiat. It never feels as though you are driving an oversized plastic toy down the road. It feels more like a small, supped-up tank with incredible gas mileage than anything else.
There are plenty more reasons than listed here to own and drive a new Fiat this Independence Day. Come on over and see us at Mount Airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat today and let us show you what all the Fiat fuss is about. And have a wonderful 4th of July in your brand new turbocharged Fiat!
