When it comes to classic style, the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee is among the top dawgs. One testament to its timeless design is that it has undergone only minor changes to its exterior and interior styling since 2011, yet it still shines in a market crowded with crossovers and SUVs that basically look the same as each other. In other words, there is no mistaking the Grand Cherokee for any other vehicle. And though other manufacturers may try, it cannot be replicated.
To the casual eye, the new Grand Cherokee might look quite similar to models over the last several years. Nonetheless, Jeep has made some significant upgrades for the 2020 model year. These upgrades, combined with the more established features, are what make the 2020 Grand Cherokee stand out among competitors. Plus, with seven trims to choose from, there’s a model that can fit a wide range of budgets, wants, and needs.
What’s more, there has never been a better time to buy. With the end of the year upon us, deals and incentives abound. So, if you’re in the market for a handsome, capable SUV, now might be the perfect opportunity to invest in a new vehicle. Below, we’ll discuss why and take a detailed look at what the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee has to offer.
WHY END OF YEAR IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY
The end of the year is well-known for being among the best times to purchase a new car. Around the Christmas and New Years’ holidays, many dealerships will be trying to bring in more stock from the new model year, which means they will need to make room. In other words, this could result in some great deals on new 2020 models. What’s more, a lot of salespeople are looking to hit monthly, quarterly, and yearly sales quotas, which also raises your potential for scoring a great deal. Be sure to come by Mount Airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat to speak with someone from our team, and you could be driving away in a new 2020 Grand Cherokee at a great price!
NEW ON THE GRAND CHEROKEE
As previously mentioned, there are some changes to the 2020 Grand Cherokee worth noting. For example, the Limited and Trailhawk trims now come standard with a single-pane sunroof, and the all-new Premium Lighting Group can be had on the Laredo, Limited, and Trailhawk trims. This lighting package comes with bi-xenon high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps, automatic high-beam headlamps, LED fog lights, and signature daytime running lights.
Also, the Active Safety Group is now available on the Laredo trim. This will give buyers automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beams, active lane-keeping assist, and forward-collision alert. These features were previously only offered on the Limited trim and up. Moreover, the High Altitude trim gets all-new wheel designs, and the Overland and Summit trim now offers more interior color choices.
EXTERIOR STYLING
There’s a reason Jeep hasn’t made any big modifications to the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s exterior in almost a decade. Simply put, it still looks as good as ever with its classic proportions and timeless style. It’s still among the best-looking SUVs (or vehicles, for that matter) on the market, and its distinguished appearance is still wooing a wide range of consumers.
This is due to a number of factors. The trademark seven-slot grille and trapezoidal wheel arches contribute significantly to the overall design, as do the sleek head- and taillights and the tasteful chrome/blacked-out trim. Buyers looking for a boost in aggressiveness can get bigger wheels and tires along with flared fenders on the SRT and Trackhawk trims. No matter what model you go with, you can rest assured that your Grand Cherokee will provide a beautiful blend of polish and ruggedness.
INTERIOR QUALITIES
Similar to the exterior, the interior of the Grand Cherokee has remained largely untouched in terms of design. That said, it’s just as attractive and comfortable as ever. Functionality is the name of the game here, as the SUV provides a great balance of controls with touchscreens, buttons, and dials. And if you opt for the Limited, Overland, or Summit trim, you get a more upscale cabin with high-quality leather, metal, and wood materials—all of which come together to make a cabin that feels much pricier than it actually is.
The 2020 Grand Cherokee has two rows of seats and can hold five passengers. One thing that sets the SUV apart from others, however, is space. The cabin is roomy enough to comfortably fit five adults, even if they want to stretch out a bit. And if you get anything above the base trim, you’ll enjoy power-adjustable and heated front seats. Of course, ventilated front seats and heated back seats are options too.
Also on every model besides the base trim comes a power liftgate. And the 60/40-split second row of seats turns 36.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats into 68.3 cubic feet.
PERFORMANCE
Four engines are available on the 2020 Grand Cherokee, and each of them is powerful. So, even if you go with the base V6 engine, your SUV will move with ease at 295 horsepower. Those who want a boost off the line and 1,000 more pounds of towing capacity (bringing it to 7,200 lbs) may want to opt for one of three V8 engines. The Trackhawk trim will get you the same supercharged V8 found in the Hellcat models of the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger, adding even more muscle.
As far as ride and handling go, the Grand Cherokee does not disappoint on or off the road. The suspension provides comfort over bumps in your path, and the brakes are responsive and reliable. The SUV even makes navigating parking lots easy with its light steering. Whether you’re venturing off the beaten path or using the Grand Cherokee for your daily commute, you’ll have a smooth ride and composed handling.
Since we’re talking about the Grand Cherokee here, a bit more must be said about its off-road capability. After all, it’s among the best in its class in this category. Jeep leaves nothing to be desired when it comes to performance options for the off-roader. Here are just a few:
- Several four-wheel-drive systems to choose from
- A limited-slip differential
- The Quadra-Lift Air Suspension system
- Hill ascent/descent control
- Track management systems for enhanced grip
TECHNOLOGY
The 2020 Grand Cherokee comes equipped with the Uconnect infotainment system, which is generally regarded as being one of the best on the market. Not only is the touchscreen uber-easy to use, but it works in conjunction with an ideal blend of buttons and knobs. Plus, you can customize the system menu and move around shortcuts until it fits your needs best.
A seven-inch touchscreen and two USB ports come standard on the base model while all other trims get an 8.4-inch screen and four USB ports, as well as a navigation function. Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are standard on all trims, and you can opt for a 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system to go with an entertainment system for the rear seats.
Safety features also abound on the 2020 Grand Cherokee. No matter what trim you choose, you’ll get a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear-cross traffic alert. And there’s a bevy of other safety features available on all trims, including:
- Adaptive cruise control
- Rain-sensing windshield wipers
- Forward-collision alert
- Automatic emergency braking
- Lane departure warning
- Parallel and perpendicular parking assist
CHOICE OF TRIMS
When it comes to variety, it’s hard to beat the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which comes in seven different trims: The Laredo, Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, SRT, and Trackhawk. This makes it easier for buyers to pick an SUV they love that meets their specific needs while fitting within their budget.
If you choose any of the first five trims (Laredo to Summit), you’ll get the 295-hp V6 engine, while the 475-hp V8 comes standard on the SRT and the 707-hp supercharged V8 powers the Trackhawk. Every engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and you can opt for either of the V8 engines on any model besides the base trim.
Rear-wheel drive is standard on the Laredo, Limited, Overland, and Summit models, though you can choose a four-wheel-drive configuration on these trims for around $2,000 to $3,000. That leaves the Trailhawk, SRT, and Trackhawk, each of which comes standard with a four-wheel-drive system. Four different 4WD systems are available on the Grand Cherokee: the Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, Quadra-Drive II, or Quadra-Trac Active On Demand. These are joined by optional components like the Selec-Terrain and Selec-Trac traction management systems, as well as the Quadra-Lift suspension system.
If you’re not really sure where to start in choosing the right trim for you, know that the Grand Cherokee Limited is a popular option. Not only does it embody everything classic about the Grand Cherokee, but it also provides a hefty amount of amenities for the price, including infotainment extras, leather seats, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. Of course, since there are so many available features on every Grand Cherokee trim, you could also start with the base model and add the upgrades that you care about the most. Adding packages in this way can help you to keep your investment more budget-friendly.
Let’s take a quick look at some of the 2020 Grand Cherokee trims:
In the base model, you’ll get cloth upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel that tilts, dual-zone automatic climate control, and 17-inch wheels. It also comes with a front passenger seat that folds forward; this allows for easier hauling of long cargo.
The Laredo will get you the Uconnect infotainment system with a seven-inch touchscreen, two USB ports, and a six-speaker audio system to go with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility. Moreover, you’ll get the safety features mentioned above (a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear-cross traffic alert).
This is where one of the biggest jumps happens in the Grand Cherokee lineup. Along with the amenities listed above, the Limited adds a premium Uconnect system that includes an 8.4-inch screen, upgraded interface, navigation, four USB ports, and a household-style power outlet (115 volts).
Trailhawk
The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk offers both posh and off-road goodies. Standard are leather seats, heated rear seats, and a nine-speaker Alpine audio system. Then, you have the Quadra-Trac II active 4WD system, Quadra-Lift Air suspension system, and hill descent/ascent control.
Summit
The Grand Cherokee Summit is all about luxury. Buyers will get Natura Plus leather upholstery, 20-inch wheels, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, and a 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. This is also where many additional safety features come standard, such as rain-sensing windshield wipers, forward-collision alert, automatic emergency braking, parallel and perpendicular parking assist, and bi-xenon headlamps.
SRT
A 475-hp V8 engine powers the Grand Cherokee SRT, which is plenty of oomph by any measure. However, what really makes the SRT stand out from the other trims is its sporty exterior and interior. For example, buyers will get a cabin that features carbon-fiber trim with leather surfaces and faux-suede accents. It also comes with 20-inch wheels with the option of Pirelli P Zero summer tires.
Trackhawk
When it comes to the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Trackhawk is the boss. Sure, it provides luxuries like suede and Nappa leather seats, but performance is where the Trackhawk truly shines. Running off the supercharged V8, the Trackhawk also comes standard with the Quadra-Trac Active On Demand 4WD system, a top-of-the-line suspension system, the Selec-Trac traction management system, and quad exhaust tips.
Conclusion
If you’re looking to buy a new SUV, acting now could save you a lot of money. Come by Mount Airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat to speak with us about our end-of-year deals and incentives. Who knows, you could be driving away in your 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee for a price you couldn’t imagine!

It’s nearly the end of the year and you know what that means: great deals on vehicles from Mount Airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram! Right now, and through to the end of 2020, we have some of the best prices on all your favorite vehicles. Better come look at the lot while they last though, because with prices as low as these, they will not last long.
Though traveling plans may have been canceled this holiday season, the holidays themselves are still sure to be hectic. The gifts, the food, the long drives to look at Christmas lights, these are sure to keep us all busy this season, and what better way to enjoy them than in a brand-new car! With the end of the year approaching, December is the best time to buy your next vehicle.
Buy Now, Save Big!
Buying at the end of the year is a sure way to save money because it is typically when car dealerships are the most anxious to close a sale in order to meet or exceed the year’s quota. On top of that, room has to be made to house the wave of next year’s models. This means our current, new and shiny, vehicles have got to go. Come vehicle shopping the last two weeks in December and you will find yourself negotiating over a sale that must be made. These two weeks are the absolute best in timing, but you do have to act quickly so as not to miss out on getting the vehicle you want.
As with any significant purchase, research and patience are necessary. In a perfect vehicle-buying situation, you the customer, as well as the salesperson, are both benefiting from the buying process. Waiting until the end of the workday is good, holding out until the end of the month is better, but if you can withstand the temptation to buy until those last few weeks in December, you will be able to give yourself quite a nice post holiday gift and for the best possible price.
What to Get
It takes time to find the right vehicle. You want something tough, something you see on the road a lot—not the side of the road. For example, how many Jeep or Chrysler models do you see broken down, shamefully sitting on the side of the highway? Not often, if ever, and that’s because they are trustworthy workhorses that last a heck of a long time.
The new Jeep Grand Cherokee easily gets 17 miles mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway, which is not bad at all for such a powerful SUV. Or, have a look at the venerated Chrysler 200 with its polished look and superior performance.
Buying at the end of the year is clearly a good choice even if you have only just been thinking of getting a new ride. Because December brings with it sales quotas and mandatory vehicle movement for dealerships, it is the perfect time for the purchaser. But, what kind of deals are we talking here?

The holidays are right around the corner and you can never go wrong with a gift that keeps giving all year-round: an upgrade to your Jeep. The Jeep Gladiator is one of the easiest vehicles to modify straight off the assembly line, as you get the benefits of interchangeable aftermarket parts from the current Jeep Wrangler, with the versatility of a very capable mid-size pickup truck. With the new JL model, the Rubicon is one of the most capable off-road vehicles on the market straight from the factory, but other non-Rubicon models (i.e. Sport, Sahara) are going to need more upgrades to be ready for off-roading adventures.
Luckily, the market is rapidly expanding for both the JL and JG, and at Mount Airy CDJR, we know which modifications will increase your vehicle’s capability and increase the joy of owning a Jeep this holiday season.
“Stocking” Stuffers
If you’re looking for stocking-sized gifts (well, an attempt at stocking sized, really), we’ve got you covered! Like most modifications, there are cheaper and higher end options available depending on your budget and material preferences for your build. We’ll try to provide recommendations on both ends of the spectrum. Whether you are enjoying the JL Wrangler or Jeep Gladiator, there are modifications for every Jeep owner.
Upgrading Shocks
Like most Jeeps, the JG factory shocks are well suited to the driving needs of most drivers. Many people leave their Jeeps stock and do not add additional weight. But, once you start wanting to support bigger tires, wheels, and cargo weight, you will need to upgrade to aftermarket shocks. If you want the flexibility to tune your shocks for the desired performance, such as transitioning from off-roading to commuting to work, adjustable shocks enable you to easily lighten the shock valving for a smoother ride in the city versus firm valves for heavy weight towing or hauling gear up a trail.
- Rubicon Express 2.5” Extreme-Duty Monotube Front Shock – RXJ903 – $249.00Teraflex Falcon 3.3 Fast Adjust Piggyback Front and Rear Shocks for 2 to 4.50-Inch Lift – $1599.99
Audio, Navigation, and Infotainment System
Some of the top aftermarket upgrades we’re seeing to the Wrangler JL and Gladiator JT is installing a new audio system, infotainment system, and navigation system. Seamless centralized and hands-free devices give drivers the technologically savvy comforts for long distance-trips and off-roading.
This 10” infotainment system comes packed with user-customized screens, vehicle information like drivetrain and gauge, as well as full-HD exterior cameras, Park Sense, USB ports, and steering wheel controls. The Heigh10’ is developed specifically to integrate with the Jeep Wrangler JL (2018-2020) and Gladiator JT (2020).
This all-weather 9” screen comes built with Bluetooth®, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ capability, HD Radio™, and plenty of input options, alongside amazing smartphone connectivity and quality sound. The dash kit replaces the section of your Jeep’s dash and comes with wiring adapters that plug directly into the factory electronics and wiring. The touch screen and bezel are splash and dust-proof, so this infotainment system is ready for every adventure you take it on. The Alpine x409 works on select 2018 and up Wrangler JL’s and the Gladiator JT (2020).
When installing a new head unit, we highly recommend our team at Mount Airy CDJR. The process, while not impossible to do yourself, requires removing the trim and screws of your existing unit, potentially crimping wires, and soldering to the wires that connect the fuse behind the factory stereo system. Our team provides expertise on the manufacturer’s side to ensure that your new infotainment system works flawlessly.
Dead Pedal
A dead pedal helps support and stabilize the driver as the vehicle goes over rough terrain, and most 4x4s come standard with a dead pedal support platform for the driver’s left leg. If you’ve been off-road in your Gladiator or JL Wrangler already, you may have realized that neither come with a dead pedal. Provide the driver in your life some comfort and relief from hamstring and ankle fatigue with a dead pedal before your next long road trip!
Grab Handles
Get a grip on your next ride with sport handles. This is an ideal gift for off-roaders or the crazy Jeep driver in your life.
Service and Maintenance at Mount Airy CDJR
If you want to give the gift of time, considering gifting a service appointment at Mount Airy CDJR. We offer a number of services to tune, maintain, and polish your vehicle. Take advantage of some of our great specials we have going on right now, and schedule your service appointment here.

Looking for a New Family Vehicle? The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica Has You Covered

It turns out the Chrysler Pacifica has solidified its place near the top of the minivan market. In recent years, it has held its own against competitors like the Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna, and Kia Sedona. And this year, it’s better than ever.
The 2021 Pacifica has basically everything you would want in a family vehicle. It’s comfortable and spacious, it provides a smooth (and quite peppy) ride, and it boasts an overall extraordinary design that includes all-new exterior and interior styling. Oh, and it also offers best-in-class fuel economy. And that’s just the start.
If you’re in the market for a new minivan, the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica must be on your list of vehicles to test drive. Below, we’ll explore the details of what makes the Pacifica such a great minivan, see how it stacks up against the competition, and even discuss a few fall family trip ideas!
NEW FOR 2021
The Pacifica has received a makeover for the 2021 model year. The first thing that stands out is the exterior styling upgrades. It’s sleeker than ever and even resembles an SUV in certain ways. Among the styling updates are new lighting components (i.e., headlights, taillights, fog lights), rear liftgate, grille, and wheels, along with a Fathom Blue paint option. The 2021 Pacifica still features what is now its trademark soft edges and character lines, and the overall exterior design is unmistakably distinct.
Also new for the 2021 model year are wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an updated Uconnect 5 infotainment system with Amazon Alexa compatibility, and an optional FamCAM interior camera to go along with an impressive suite of standard safety features. Moreover, the Touring L has been discontinued, and the all-new Pinnacle has assumed the role as the Pacifica’s top trim. The hybrid powertrain is available on more Pacifica trims than in previous years as well.
WHAT’S INSIDE?
Now that we’ve covered some of the main additions and updates to the 2021 Pacifica, let’s discuss what potential buyers can expect inside the cabin:
Seating
Depending on whether you go with the bench seat or captain chairs in the second row, the Pacifica will comfortably accommodate seven or eight passengers. The driver’s and front passenger seats are particularly comfortable and spacious, and no matter if your model has the bench or captain chairs, passengers in the second row will have plenty of head- and legroom to spread out. The third row offers ample space as well, and the Stow ‘n Go seats in the second and third rows easily fold down into the floor, eliminating the need to remove and store the seats externally.
The 2021 Pacifica comes standard with cloth upholstery, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and the second- and third-row Stow ‘n Go seats. But there are many optional upgrades in this category. For instance, buyers can choose quilted-leather upholstery (with matching lumbar pillows in the second-row captain chairs), a power-adjustable front passenger seat, a power-folding third-row bench seat, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, and/or power-sliding rear doors.
Cargo Space
The Pacifica also offers a lot of cargo space. There are 87.5 cubic feet behind the second row and 32.3 cubic feet behind the third row. With the seats folded down in both rows, the minivan provides 140.5 total cubic feet. And remember—the convenient Stow ‘n Go seats are a valuable feature when it comes to hauling items, and they are only available on the Pacifica, Pacifica Hybrid, and Voyager.
Tech and Other Features
It doesn’t get any more up-to-date for a minivan than the 2021 Pacifica. When getting into the vehicle, one of the first things you might notice is that a traditional gear stick has been replaced by a round dial with Park, Drive, Reverse, and so on, and the parking brake is operated by a button. The Pacifica gets Chrysler’s most recent infotainment system, Uconnect 5, which is projected and operated through a 10.1-inch touchscreen display.
Among many other features, the infotainment system comes with a reconfigurable home screen, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth connectivity, and Amazon Alexa, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto integration. You can get as many as 12 USB ports throughout the cabin, and USB-C ports are also available, which helps to charge devices faster. While a six-speaker audio system comes standard, you can upgrade to a 13-speaker Alpine or 19-speaker Harman Kardon stereo, and a dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system and overhead DVD player are also on the options list.
Parents who want to keep tabs on children in the back seat might find the new FamCAM invaluable. This feature shows the rear seats on the infotainment screen, which is a much easier and safer method than using traditional mirrors.
HOW’S THE DRIVE?
The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 287 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. This is matched with a nine-speed automatic transmission that is both responsive and smooth. Drivers can expect about 19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway, which are among the best in the minivan class.
As far as acceleration goes, the Pacifica offers plenty of pep for a minivan, but its overall smoothness steals the show. With minimal body roll, it feels secure around bends, and its handling is every bit as responsive as you would want in a vehicle. Also, all-wheel-drive is an option.
HOW SAFE IS IT?
Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has crash-tested the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica. But if the 2020 model year is anything to go by, consumers can expect the 2021 Pacifica to be as safe as it gets for a minivan. In 2020, the NHTSA gave the Pacifica five stars, and the IIHS designated it as a Top Safety Pick.
Along with what can be expected to be stellar crash test ratings comes a slew of standard and optional safety features for 2021. For example, forward-collision mitigation with emergency braking and pedestrian detection comes on all Pacifica trims, as does adaptive cruise control. Also standard is blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert, which is likely to come in particularly handy given the all-around size of the minivan and the number of passengers who could prove to be distracting.
And then there’s the Safety Sphere Group, which is a suite of safety features that comes standard in the Pinnacle trim and optional in the Touring L and Limited trims. This package includes a 360-degree camera system to go with parallel and perpendicular parking assistance.
2021 PACIFICA VS. THE COMPETITION
Now that we’ve seen some of what the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica has to offer, let’s look at it in relation to its competitors:
Honda Odyssey
By all accounts, the 2021 Honda Odyssey is a good minivan, particularly when it comes to reliability and fuel economy. However, while the Odyssey provides a little more cargo space, that’s pretty much the only area in which it has an upper hand on the Pacifica; and even so, the Odyssey doesn’t come with the convenient Stow ‘n Go seats that fold into the floorboard. The 360 Surround View camera, Stow ‘n Vac system, FamCAM, Uconnect 5 infotainment system, and other modernities also set the Pacifica apart.
Toyota Sienna
Like the Odyssey, The Toyota Sienna has a reputation for being a good minivan. There are, however, a few key differences to consider between the newest Pacifica and Sienna models. Compared to the 2021 Sienna, the overall exterior appearance of the Pacifica resembles more of an SUV and less of a conventional minivan—a quality that is established even more with the 2021 styling upgrades. Also, the 2021 Toyota Sienna is only available as a hybrid; with the Pacifica, you can choose between a gas-only and a hybrid powertrain.
Moreover, though the newest Sienna comes with Toyota’s renowned package of safety systems (Safety Sense), the 2021 Pacifica offers many more standard safety features—97, to be exact. And then there are the little things, such as the Pacifica’s standard 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen compared to the Sienna’s nine-inch screen.
Kia Sedona
Of the minivans mentioned so far, the Kia Sedona is consistently ranked last. That doesn’t mean it is without its merits. The 2021 Sedona has more seating and a little more leg- and headroom in the third row than the 2021 Pacifica. But the Pacifica takes the upper hand in almost every other category. Along with besting the Sedona in safety and tech features, the Pacifica offers more horsepower and higher torque, better fuel economy, a smoother driving experience, available all-wheel-drive, and a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
2021 PACIFICA HYBRID MODELS
Unlike in previous years, Chrysler is offering a hybrid version in four of the Pacifica trims: Hybrid Touring, Hybrid Touring L, Hybrid Limited, and Hybrid Pinnacle. As can be expected, the hybrid models provide the best fuel economy you can find in a minivan—traveling up to 33 miles on electric power and producing 84 MPGe combined.
Besides the fuel economy, there are a few factors worth considering when choosing between a hybrid and non-hybrid Pacifica. For example, because of the battery pack, the second-row Stow ‘n Go seats are not available on the hybrid models. This means less convenience (you have to remove these seats for extra cargo space) but more comfort (the seats have more cushion). Also, the instant torque produced by the electric motors of the Pacifica Hybrid models makes for faster acceleration. Moreover, the hybrid versions are only available in front-wheel drive, while the non-hybrids can be had with all-wheel-drive.
FALL TRIPS TO CONSIDER
Once you drive off the lot in your new Chrysler Pacifica, why not go on a family trip to enjoy the best autumn has to offer? Below are some North Carolina destinations that are definitely worth researching!
Grandfather Mountain. This is the highest peak of the Blue Ridge Mountain Range, and it provides visitors with everything from incredible scenery to challenging hiking trails. Plus, the swinging mile-high bridge alone is worth the trip!
The Blowing Rock. North Carolina’s oldest tourist attraction, the Blowing Rock offers amazing views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the village of Blowing Rock is as good as it gets when you’re looking for a quaint mountain getaway.
The Pisgah National Forest. This rainforest will offer your family a little warmth on your fall trip. Plan to visit a lot of breathtaking waterfalls, and consider staying in the beautiful town of Brevard.
The Outer Banks. North Carolina is known for its abundance of mountain destinations, but fall can also be the perfect time to hit the beach—especially when it’s the Outer Banks. Novels and movies have been inspired by the towns and beaches of the Outer Banks, as visitors can escape overrun vacation spots and crowded cities for a relaxing, magnificent getaway.
Conclusion
For parents looking for the perfect vehicle to tote the family around, the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica is hard to beat. It’s the most attractive minivan on the market, it offers a superior driving and riding experience, it includes the most standard safety features, and it provides enough technology to keep the whole family happy—whether you’re commuting across town or taking a road trip to one of the stunning destinations mentioned above. The new Gladiator Eco Diesel is not Jeep’s first diesel-run pickup truck. In 1964, Jeep presented two forward-control models that came with a two-stroke diesel, to the United States Marines. Years later they came out with the Comanche—a turbocharged, 2.1-liter four-cylinder diesel in 1986-87. These models were successful and, in a sense, paved the way for the 2021 Gladiator Eco Diesel.
Eco Diesel Specs
The engine under the hood of the all-new Gladiator Eco Diesel is built by Fiat Chrysler’s VM Motori, an impressive Italian engine subsidiary, and it is constructed as a compacted, graphite-iron block with aluminum cylinder heads and a supercharger that pushes 31.9 pounds of power. So, not only does the Gladiator Eco Diesel offer a ton of power, but it is also built to handle intense pressure in and around the engine itself.
The Eco Gladiator provides 260 horsepower at 3600 rpm and 442 pound-feet of torque (and that’s only at 1400 rpm, which is the highest torque rating in any mid-sized pickup—and it provides more than 260 pound-feet of torque than other standard 3.6-liter, gas V-6 engines!).
What does this all mean? It means this is one tough truck that will last a lifetime. This is the perfect truck to pull, tow, and off-road in. You will not find a hill too steep or a curve too tight for this very versatile pickup. Its response time is quick (a little surprising, actually. Be careful when you hit that gas peddle for the first time!), and the ride itself is quite soft and clean. And even though the 2021 Gladiator Eco Diesel weighs about four hundred pounds more than the typical gas model, the Eco Diesel doesn’t ride or feel heavy at all. In fact, it is reported to hit 60 mph within seven seconds.
You Need the Gladiator Eco Diesel
In some ways, the all-new Jeep Gladiator is exactly what it looks like: half-Jeep, half-truck. In other ways it is so much more: a beefy vehicle that’s not afraid to go off-roading; a midsized pickup that is so advanced there is nothing else out quite like it; and a family car offering smooth, easy driving. Sounds almost too good to be true, we know. This newfangled utility vehicle is sure to turn heads and impress even the most knowledgeable of car enthusiasts, and the fact that it operates as an eco diesel makes it even more desirable. The Gladiator Eco Diesel is something new, impressive, and never really been done before.
Due to the company’s successful history with Diesel pickups, Jeep has not failed to keep in mind what works best with diesel pickups, and with what the modern consumer wants and needs in a truck. This is important—knowing how the pickup of today is used—because trucks aren’t what they used to be. Whereas before they were these clunky, minimalist vehicles made for either hauling or towing, they are now built to be the all-encompassing vehicle that offers a smooth ride with advanced capabilities to make everyone happy, children and adults alike. The same could be said about the Wrangler itself: once an ultra-rugged machine meant to get dirty, rusty, and beat up, the more modern versions have managed to keep the original toughness, but add in a lot of luxury and new technology. Jeep has proven in the past they are willing and capable of keeping up with the most modern advances, but with the Gladiator Eco Diesel, they actually take the lead in innovation.
Effective innovation is really what Jeep is all about. Jeep has proven time and time again their ability to take something already proven to do well and make it better. In this case, with the 2021 Gladiator Eco Diesel, Jeep has taken both the Wrangler (their own venerable vehicle) and the concept of a midsize pickup to an entirely new level.
Stop in to Mount Airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram today and see how you feel about the all-new Eco Diesel—it might just be our favorite version of the Gladiator made.

In 2011, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) announced that the Jeep Grand Wagoneer would be reborn for the 2013 model year—after a 22-year hiatus. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. And after then-CEO Sergio Marchionne passed away in 2018, many consumers and industry experts assumed that the dreams of a new Grand Wagoneer went with him. Until now.
FCA has recently announced plans for a 2022 Grand Wagoneer that will aim to offer consumers something unique in a market crowded with look-alike SUVs. It’s expected to be a full-size, three-row SUV that competes with the Land Rover Range Rover, GMC Yukon, Cadillac Escalade, and the like. And according to the official concept photos, it appears to combine modern luxuries with old-world artisan design.
It’s worth noting that while the next generation of the Grand Wagoneer is on its way, it’s not set for production until summer 2021. As such, all of the information we have is based solely on the concept and details provided to the public by FCA. Fortunately, that information—along with a healthy dose of speculation—gives us a pretty good idea of what to expect from the upcoming luxury SUV.
Below, we’ll recount a brief history of the iconic Jeep Grand Wagoneer before diving into what we can look forward to with its 2022 reemergence.
A LITTLE HISTORY
The first Jeep Wagoneer debuted in 1963, and the manufacturer considered it their first full-size vehicle (FSJ). The Wagoneer wasn’t just a first of its kind for Jeep; the automobile market itself had never seen anything quite like it. And in 1966, Jeep released the Super Wagoneer, which was loaded with luxury features like power brakes, power steering, tilt steering, high-end radio, and more. Up to that point, no truck-like vehicle had ever offered features like that. The success of the Super Wagoneer showed Jeep that it was possible to compete in the upscale market.
AMC purchased Jeep in 1970, after which the manufacturer decided to focus its production on the more basic Cherokee and Wagoneer models. Over the years, however, AMC realized that there was a consistent market for a more upscale Wagoneer; the vehicle’s rugged appearance fused with a comfortable daily commute had attracted higher-income consumers in droves.
Fast-forward to the late 70s, and the Wagoneer Limited entered the scene—full wood panels and all. The Limited added numerous modern conveniences, along with a smoother and quieter ride than on previous models. This model produced substantial sales over the next few years, and in 1982, it received an interior overhaul including leather bucket seats, air conditioning, and a bunch of electric assist features. In short, it was making a seamless transition into a market dominated by the likes of Cadillac.
During this time, AMC was experiencing financial turmoil, and the success of the more upscale Wagoneer was not enough to save the company from going under. As a result, the all-new compact Jeep Cherokee (XJ) was born, and it was decided that the Wagoneer lineup would be condensed to a single full-size model. Carrying over most of the features loved about the Limited, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer nameplate surfaced in 1984.
Only minor changes were made to the styling and mechanics of the Grand Wagoneer from there on out—even after Chrysler bought out Jeep in 1987. Nonetheless, sales were steady for the model, which lived in a price category with other station wagons like those manufactured by Volvo.
By 1991, however, the Grand Wagoneer’s poor fuel economy, lack of technological features, and the emergence of new federal safety standards, among other factors, resulted in the model’s discontinuation. Shortly thereafter, the arrival of the Lincoln Navigator, Mercedez-Benz M-Class, and other models ushered in a new era of luxury SUVs—one that exchanged off-road capabilities for more interior room and a softer ride.
Despite being discontinued, however, the Grand Wagoneer has maintained a following of fans for its throwback design, unique character, and a stellar reputation. Furthermore, a new generation of fans has emerged, making this the perfect time to resurrect the first-ever luxo-truck.
THE EXTERIOR
Now, let’s discuss everything we know about the up-and-coming 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer concept, starting with the exterior design:
Throwback Design
If you’re expecting a complete rebirth of a vintage Grand Wagoneer, you might be sorely disappointed. According to the concept images released, the 2022 model looks like a modern luxury vehicle. However, that’s not to say that Jeep isn’t going to include any nods to the vehicle’s predecessors. The iconic seven-slot grille is present, and there is genuine teak wood inside the headlight housings. Other classic Jeep features include tow hooks, trapezoid wheel arches, and a front skid plate.

Modern Touches
It may not look like a Grand Wagoneer from the 60s, but the appearance of the 2022 concept can be summed up in one word: awesome. According to FCA Head of Design, Ralph Gilles, “The Grand Wagoneer Concept is inspired by the original, but with a modern interpretation of luxury and freedom. We strived to create an elegant design with a timeless silhouette, featuring countless beautifully crafted details that come together to give it an undeniable presence.” Indeed, it appears that Jeep has succeeded.
The new seven-slot grille is highlighted by Obsidian Black and impressive latticework; LED bulbs illuminate it from behind. The gigantic 24-inch aluminum wheels and front skid plate are also adorned in Obsidian Black. “WAGONEER” lettering stretches across the wider portion of the brow above the LED headlights and grille.
From the side of the Grand Wagoneer, you can see its greenhouse outlined by black windshield pillars extending to the black roof, as well as body-color roof pillars and chrome window trims. When activated, power-deploying running boards are also visible, and the front doors have an American Flag emblem alongside Wagoneer lettering.
The back of the luxury SUV makes some pronouncements of its own. The power liftgate is greeted by wrap-around rear LED taillights. The rear window is almost vertical, and the license plate sits on a wide frame. A skid plate is incorporated in the rear bumper, and the lower diffuser panel houses reflectors. As a finishing statement, massive Wagoneer lettering extends across the rear fascia between the rear window and tail lights.

THE INTERIOR
Moving inside, the 2022 Grand Wagoneer is nothing if not impressive. Let’s see how Jeep managed to achieve sustainability, along with uncompromised luxury, comfort, and convenience:
Cabin Materials
Sustainability is a focus in the Grand Wagoneer’s interior. An aluminum structural trim piece—which is fashioned with heat-treated lacewood inlays—stretches across the entire length of the dashboard. The ventilation trims, speaker grilles, and shift knob also contain the raw aluminum material, as does the Grand Wagoneer emblem above the passenger glove box. Paying homage to the original Wagoneer, an aluminum plate inscribed with “1963” adheres to each end of the dashboard behind the front doors. Jeep makes plenty of use of wood and black glass on the dash as well.
Passenger Volume and Comfort
Promising class-leading overall interior volume, the Grand Wagoneer will be available in an extended-length version. There are three rows, including two bucket seats in the second row, that should fit seven passengers up to 6’4” quite easily. It’s expected that an eight-passenger configuration will be offered, which would mean a bench seat in the second row.
The seats in the new Grand Wagoneer resemble the original version. They come with diamond-perforated leather, heating, massage, and ventilation options. There’s a two-spoke steering wheel, and the driver and passenger each have an armrest on the center console. Lighting is brought to the next level in this cabin; customizable color and brightness settings allow for the ultimate ambiance.

Technology
The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is expected to come with FCA’s new Uconnect 5 infotainment software. The Uconnect 4 software has been widely recognized as a leader in the industry for its efficiency and user-friendliness, and Jeep claims that Uconnect 5 is five times faster while offering more user-customization options. Just as impressive, the Grand Wagoneer’s cabin looks like it’s suited for space travel. Roughly 75 inches of touchscreens are distributed throughout:
- A 12.3-inch driver instrumental panel
- A 12.1-inch horizontal touchscreen atop the center stack for entertainment, navigation, etc.
- A 10.25-inch passenger display
- A 10.25-inch touchscreen for climate and seat control on the bottom of the center stack.
- Individual 10.1-inch touchscreens on the back of the driver’s and front passenger’s seats
- A 10.1-inch touchscreen on the second row’s center console for climate and seat control
In other words, it appears that Jeep isn’t holding anything back in terms of technology. Yet, somehow the Grand Wagoneer’s interior still looks clean and classy.

THE MECHANICS
We also know a little about what’s going on under the 2022 Grand Wagoneer’s hood:
Ram 1500 Platform
Rather than a unibody structure like the Cherokee or Grand Cherokee, the 2022 Grand Wagoneer will use a body-on-frame platform. Most likely, it will share underpinnings with the Ram 1500 pickup truck, which means that its off-road prowess will be hard to match for others in its class. Of course, necessary modifications will be made to this platform to give buyers the ride comfort they can expect in a luxury SUV.
Engines and Transmissions
Since they are sharing a platform, the Grand Wagoneer will probably offer the same engines and transmissions as the Ram 1500. Following this logic, the base model would come with the latest 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces 305 horsepower. However, most models will likely be powered by the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 that produces almost 400 hp, along with the eTorque electric hybrid option. It’s also possible that the SUV will offer the 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel, which would provide better fuel efficiency. Moreover, it’s expected that all Grand Wagoneer engines will be paired with the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission; all models should be available in rear- or four-wheel-drive as well.
THE COST
Finally, the Grand Wagoneer will come in two lengths. The short-base model is expected to start at around $75,000, which is comparable to the base models of competitors like the 2021 Cadillac Escalade ($77,490) and Lincoln Navigator ($77,480). The long-wheelbase Grand Wagoneer will likely start at about $80,000, which is similar to the Escalade ESV ($80,490) and Navigator L ($86,220). Loaded with upgrades, the Grand Wagoneer will easily hit the $100,000 mark.
One thing to keep in mind, however, is that Jeep is not simply aiming to compete in the luxury full-size SUV market. Its mission is to disrupt it. Along with the many luxuries and smooth ride Jeep is promising for the Grand Wagoneer, the new SUV has something else that its competitors don’t appear to have: legitimate off-road capabilities. In that sense, these estimated prices for the Grand Wagoneer really don’t seem so steep compared to others in its class.
Conclusion
Yes, it’s really happening. After years and years of rumors that never proved true, Jeep is resurrecting the Grand Wagoneer, with an official production date scheduled for summer 2021. While it pays homage to the original model in certain areas, there’s no question that the 2022 Grand Wagoneer is embracing the now. And if it looks and performs half as well as the concept suggests, then it stands a real shot at imitating the solid sales of its predecessor. Right now, all we can do is wait and see what happens in production!
Jeep Cherokee vs. Jeep Grand Cherokee: Which 2020 Model Is Right for You?

If you’re considering purchasing a 2020 Jeep Cherokee or 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, chances are you are in the market for a rugged-yet-sophisticated SUV—one that can handle itself on the road less taken but that is also comfortable for your daily commute. Indeed, both SUVs share these qualities, among many others. Nonetheless, they are different vehicles. The Cherokee is a compact SUV. The Grand Cherokee is a midsize SUV. So, it’s inevitable that they differ in certain areas.
To help you determine whether the 2020 Jeep Cherokee or Grand Cherokee can best meet your needs and preferences, let’s discuss information for both vehicles and compare powertrains, off-road capabilities, interiors, technologies, and other features:
Power and Towing
A new turbocharged four-cylinder engine joins the standard four-cylinder and optional V-6 to make three engine options for the Cherokee in 2020. The four-cylinder (2.4-liter inline-four) serves as the base engine and produces 180 horses and 171 pound-feet of torque. The 3.2-liter Pentastar V-6 is good for 271 hp and 239 lb-ft of torque, while the new turbocharged four-cylinder pushes 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of twists. All engines are paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The V-6 can provide up to 4,500 pounds of towing, which great for its class, and the turbocharged four-cylinder will pull about 4,000 lb.
The Grand Cherokee offers four engines. It comes with a V-6 base engine, but you can opt for a V-8 on any trim above the Altitude. The 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 produces 295 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, while the available 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 yields 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. The Grand Cherokee SRT comes standard with a performance-focused 6.4-liter V-8 engine that’s good for 475 horses and 470 lb-ft of twists.
The Grand Cherokee Trackhawk trim runs on a 6.2-liter Hellcat V-8 that pushes 707 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque. All engines are matched with an eight-speed transmission. The V-6 engine has a maximum towing capacity of 6,200 pounds while the V-8 engines will pull up to 7,200 pounds.

Off-Road Pros
You can’t really go wrong with either the Cherokee or Grand Cherokee when it comes to off-road capabilities. The Cherokee has a reputation for besting its competitors in the compact SUV segment. The Cherokee Trailhawk, in particular, includes specially-designed suspension and four-wheel drive.
The Grand Cherokee also shines in its class in terms of off-road performance, and it offers more features than the Cherokee in this category. For example, several different four-wheel drive options are available with the Grand Cherokee, as well as hill ascent and descent control, traction management systems, and a limited-slip differential. The list is topped off by a Quadra-Lift air suspensions system.
Interior
Being a midsize SUV, the Grand Cherokee naturally offers more overall headroom and legroom than the Cherokee. The Cherokee is quite comfortable for the average driver and front passenger, but it gets a little tight in the backseat. Cargo space also goes to the Grand Cherokee, which offers 36.3 cubic feet of trunk space and 63.8 with the second-row seats folded down. The Cherokee provides 25.8 cubic feet of space in the trunk. Lowering the cargo floor pushes it to 27.6 cubic feet, and folding down the back seats makes it 54.7.
Both the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee have sturdy, comfortable seats, though the Grand Cherokee’s are larger overall, which might increase the comfort a little. Moreover, The Grand Cherokee’s cabin materials get more luxurious as you go up in trim levels, while all Cherokee trims rely on hard plastics and soft-touch materials.
Technology
Whether you go with a Cherokee or Grand Cherokee, you can expect great technology. Both models come with Jeep’s Uconnect infotainment system, which is recognized as one of the best in the industry, and both come standard with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a seven-inch touchscreen. An 8.4-inch screen is available on the Cherokee while it comes standard on every Grand Cherokee besides the base model.
In regards to safety, the Cherokee earned higher ratings from the NHTSA and IIHS, though both the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee received four stars overall from the NHTSA. Furthermore, both vehicles come with impressive safety technology. Every Cherokee is equipped with a rearview camera and rear parking sensors, while park assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, rear-cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control are optional.
The Grand Cherokee comes standard with a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear-cross traffic alert. And on every trim level, you can opt for the features mentioned above, as well as active parallel and perpendicular parking assist and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
The Bottom Line
The 2020 Jeep Cherokee and 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee are both great SUVs with a long-standing reputation that speaks for itself. The SUV you should choose really comes down to what you’re looking for. The Cherokee is smaller, which means that you will likely pay a lower price overall for a well-rounded, capable compact SUV. However, if you need the extra cabin and cargo space, a more powerful engine, and a few additional luxuries, the Grand Cherokee could be right up your alley. Without the proper guidance of a professional sales associate, it can be difficult in finding an affordable and worthy used pickup truck. This is why at Mount Airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram we make sure to always have a vast selection of used pickup trucks on-site and online for our customers to peruse at any time. Our knowledgeable team of associates keeps up with modern methods of buying quality used cars and trucks, and we don’t mind sharing a few key tips for you here.
You need a truck but you don’t want to buy a brand new one. Whether you are going to use your truck to putt around the neighborhood or for your daily driver, it’s imperative you find something that will run for years to come without costing you an arm and a leg in surprise repairs. To get started with your search for that perfect used truck, there are a few procedures you can go through to help quicken the buying process.
All the trucks on our lot have already gone through rigorous testing and checklists to make sure they are fit to be sold, so one quick and easy way to shop is to come and speak with one of our associates. We can help you narrow down what you want based on how you will use your truck—and we can have you driving off the lot the same day!
But, if you want to find that hidden gem yourself, you want to go about it the right way.
Used Truck Shopping
The first thing you need to do is determine what your truck will be used for. Will you be hauling and pulling heavy loads, or will this truck hold tools and supplies? Narrowing this down can help you sift through your options more efficiently.
Next, you need to find a truck that fits your price range. Decide on how much you can spend before looking for trucks (you will always end up spending more than you should otherwise). The process of deciding between trucks is much easier when you know exactly how much you are able to spend. It wouldn’t hurt to ask one of our sales associates about the types of warranties offered with used pickups you are interested in having a warranty. Some models might offer better warranty plans than others, which is something else that can help narrow your search.
Buying used can be a great way to save money on a vehicle that you really want. It can also turn into an incredible hassle and cause you to spend way more than you wanted in repairs. So, how exactly does one keep from throwing money down the drain on a used truck? The savvy shopper ensures the purchase is worthwhile by doing his research. After all, nobody wants to buy someone else’s problems.
Here are a few tips:
Tip #1: First and foremost, it is necessary to check prices and reviews. By conducting a quick search on KBB or local dealership sites, you can make sure that the truck you want isn’t completely out of your price range. Next, check out the Consumer Report on the truck makes and models you are interested in (and this interest can be based on looks alone—go for what you really like). Research to see if the truck tends to keep its resale value. Also check to see if it scores high marks on things like transmission, engine, and other big expense items.
Tip #2: Once you decide on the vehicle you want, for a price you can afford, go to Facebook Marketplace to begin shopping. Where people sell their used trucks (private parties and dealerships) changes periodically, and the trend as of late is to use Facebook. This is probably the best place to start, and the process for shopping is pretty straight- forward.
If you find trucks you are interested in, check the vehicle history report. To do this, get the vehicle VIN number (you may have to contact the seller for this) and take it to AutoCheck or Carfax for a full history report. The fee for this is minimal and well worth the cost and time it takes, which isn’t long. If you find the truck has been in a wreck or has an unclear history, move on to another vehicle option or a different model of the same truck.
Tip #3: Test-drive the truck. This is to allow you to get a feel for the way it drives. And this gives you an opportunity to see if there are any obvious problems like poor handling, strange noises, etc. If you find anything about the truck you don’t think you could live with, move on. (More on test drives in a minute.)
Tip #4: You have found a truck you like. You did your research on the make and model and the test drive went well. Now what? Get the truck inspected. Mount Airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram has professional and well-trained mechanics that you can bring your truck to for a complete inspection, as well as, some solid advice on caring for that particular model. They will run a full report on how the truck currently drives and they can let you know of any possible future issues.
The Art of the Test Drive
When you go for a test drive, what exactly are you looking and listening for? (Is it really necessary to kick the tires?) The answer is anything and everything. You simply want to be aware: why does the left rear make a sound when I turn? I really like how smoothly the truck shifts between gears.
Since you will most likely be spending a lot of time in this truck, make sure it has a smooth ride, nice handling, and a quiet cabin. And if it doesn’t, bring it back and find out what those worrisome areas are and if they can be fixed at a low cost—maybe you can even negotiate a reduced price. Many times shoppers make the mistake of using the test drive only to see if there is something wrong with the vehicle. While it is a good idea to keep an open ear for any clanking or knocking noises, it is also important to make sure this truck drives how you want it to. You are buying used, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be picky. (And no, you do not have to kick the tires.)
Making the Right Choices When Buying a Used Truck
One of the most important choices you can make when shopping for a used truck is to ask to see the service records and background check. This should happen before anything else since if anything comes back red flagged, you need to move on to another truck.
Another good choice is to come to us with any questions you can’t find the answers to. We know it can be frustrating when trying to find a worthy truck—we go through the same processes when finding used trucks for our lot—and we want to help you any way we can, which is why we sell quality used trucks in the first place.

As August winds down, schools are beginning to start back up. And, whether your child is attending virtually or in-person, this means there is going to be more traffic and bustling about. But don’t panic, prepare instead. With the right precautions in place, you and your children can travel safely as we try to navigate the months ahead.
Carpooling is a great way to save some money, help the environment, and socialize, but during a pandemic it is important to know the right protocol, and for everyone involved to follow it consistently.
The first step to a safe carpool is making sure everyone is aware of the situation we are in, and all are on board to work together to keep everyone safe. Begin by contacting the other passengers and drivers who will be in the carpool. There is no need to panic, but you do need to be sure everyone in the car will be wearing a mask, and there will be enough room so that each person can sit without leaning into or resting on another passenger.
It’s also a good idea to have everyone involved agree to take temperatures each day before entering the vehicle. Be sure and have plenty of hand sanitizer, and make it a rule to use it before entering and again immediately after getting out of the car.
Here are a few more tips from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention:
- Try and keep from touching surfaces. Consciously taking into account what is most touched in your surroundings will help you cut down on using hand sanitizer as much. For those cases when you do have to touch something commonly handled, simply apply sanitizer or wash your hands as soon as possible. While carpooling, avoiding surfaces is especially difficult, so wearing gloves is a good idea.
- Limit the number of passengers. Though it might cause multiple trips or even more cars on the road, it is important to create space even in confined spots. Consider cutting the limit to half of what it was before and require everyone in the car to wear a mask during the trip.
- Weather permitting, keep windows open or cracked so plenty of air gets in and out. Good ventilation is key to keep from the spread of germs.
- Clean those hands. After touching surfaces outside of your own home, be sure to use sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Or, if you would rather use soap, wash in warm water for at least 20 seconds.
More Safety Tips
Here are a few more tips on keeping your young ones safe as you travel:
- Make sure car seats are tightly secured and wiped down with disinfectant between each use. When clipping in a car seat it is important to make sure it is pulled tightly against the back of the seat. Sometimes you really have to wrench on the belt, but if you can wiggle the seat back and forth with minimal effort, it’s not tight enough.
- When strapping your child into a car seat, be sure the top strap is pulled up to the top of the child’s chest. You should be able to fit two fingers between the top strap and the child, so it needs to be snug but not too tight to where it’s uncomfortable.
- Keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel. No matter how badly your child is screaming for a toy he dropped on the floor of the car, do not try and reach around or turn around to grab it. If it is something your child needs at the moment, simply pull the car over and put on the hazards. It might only take a second to look back and grab that toy while driving, but it also only takes a second to completely veer into the opposite lane.

“Stylish, yet capable” perfectly defines the new Gladiator Altitude Edition. This blacked-out, special-edition model comes with all the bells and whistles and a lot of muscle behind them. Mount Airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat has all the latest on this new version of the Gladiator and we can’t wait for you to get behind the wheel of this impressive truck.
The 2020 Jeep Gladiator Altitude Edition comes in the Sport S trim, which includes dark color pops on the exterior along with dark gray accents—body-color grille, body-color fender flares, black badges—and it comes with 18-inch Granite Crystal wheels (which are wrapped with 255/70R18 Bridgestone Dueler All-Terrain tires).
A three-piece black Freedom Top hardtop comes standard with the Altitude edition, though there is the option for a dual-top package, which includes a soft-top. Exterior colors include standard black or white, Firecracker Red, Billet Silver, Granite Crystal, Sting Gray, Hydro Blue, Gator (green), and Gobi (beige).
Mostly, the interior to the Altitude is the same as the 2020 Gladiator (regular edition), but there are a few differences: black stitching around a leather-wrapped steering wheel; a Wizard Black instrument panel; and there are a few bolster accents throughout.
What Sets the Gladiator Altitude Apart
The Gladiator is already a head-turner, but now with the new Altitude Edition, heads are turning even more. This half-Jeep, half-truck has already proven itself as a beefy vehicle that’s not afraid to go off-roading. And when you break it down further, the Altitude is a midsized pickup that is so advanced there is nothing else out quite like it. It looks and operates as a truck, but rides like a smooth sedan.
Sounds almost too good to be true, right? Well, it’s not. This newfangled utility vehicle is sure to keep heads turning and impress even the most knowledgeable of truck enthusiasts. Jeep loves to take something already proven and making it better, and in this case, they have taken both the Wrangler (an already venerated vehicle) and the concept of a midsize pickup to new levels. The 2020 Gladiator Altitude is a bold move for Jeep, one that is already paying off nicely.
It doesn’t hurt that the new Jeep Gladiator Altitude looks amazing. The long frame stretches across the road. It sits low, atop four chunky wheels—crouched in position to take off and cut through rugged paths. Its boxy shape reminds us it is still a Wrangler, but the open bed in the back makes it unique. In full view, the Gladiator shines bright with slight curvature around the bed and front, but all following long, hard lines creating the 218-inch frame (the longest Jeep made). It’s truly a marvel to watch this machine take over the road.
What truly sets the Jeep Gladiator apart is that it can do everything the most modern Wrangler can do—fight through muddy paths, crawl over rocky terrain, and cruise down country roads. The Altitude can do all these things and more, namely in terms of traction, water fording, maneuverability, articulation, and ground clearance.
Here are some key features that make the Gladiator stand out:
- Every wheel of the Jeep Gladiator works independently do drive you forward, making sure you always have the best traction. This feature shines best when climbing over large rocks or dipping through big potholes. Each wheel keeps turning, allowing you constant momentum.
- Water Fording. With its high air intake and advanced water sealing, you can cruise through the water of up to 30-inches. This will definitely help you enjoy the creeks and streams found down the beaten path.
- Optimized wheelbases and precision steering allow the rather long frame of the Gladiator to ease through tough, tight trails and spaces. It really is amazing how well the 2020 Gladiator maneuvers around rocky terrain. Whether elevated or flat, the Gladiator pushes through it all.

- This term means all four wheels are able to maintain a connection with the ground, no matter how uneven the drive is. It’s fascinating to watch, as the wheelbase twists and bends to always keep the vehicle in contact and control. Jeep has thought of everything with the Gladiator.
- Ground Clearance. Between the ground and the underside of the all-new Gladiator, there is 11.1-inches of clearance. Trying to picture this can be tough, so go ahead and break out the tape measure. That’s a lot of clearance! Now you can drive over logs and branches that would before keep a new adventure from ever happening.
A Closer Look
Here are a few more notable specifics to the all-new, 2020 Jeep Gladiator:
- The zipperless Sunrider soft-top and lightweight panels to the hard-top are easier than ever to remove—after a little practice, it can easily be done with one hand. Now drivers can go from a covered vehicle to a complete convertible within a few minutes.
- Feel like getting a little closer to nature while you drive? The Gladiator maintains its Wrangler-ness by offering the capability to remove all four doors, as well as, fold down the front windshield. This is the best way to splash through big puddles and smaller bodies of water. Just because you have yourself a shiny, new Gladiator doesn’t mean you have to wait on getting it dirty.
- Rugged Steel Box: the 5-foot steel bed comes with tie-downs and available spray-in bed liner, which is durable enough to handle extremely heavy loads. This is not Jeep simply slapping a bed on a Wrangler. This is a true-blue, heavy-duty truck bed made and ready to handle anything you dare throw in it.
- Weatherproof Power Outlet: this advanced truck bed comes with a 115-volt power outlet located in the rear of the bed to help you saw through plywood, charge power-tool batteries, or even warm-up that new meat smoker. There is a switch in the cab of the Gladiator that activates the outlet, so it’s not constantly running.
- Secured Cargo: the Trail Rail Cargo Management System uses adjustable tie-downs with overlapping rails to weigh down and secure items resting in the bed. This is great for those items that you are afraid might fly out of the bed during the drive.
- Advanced Tailgate: the three-positioned tailgate is easy to lower and close and allows for the following carrying options: upright, midway up, and completely flat. These different positions allow for safe carriage of all sorts of materials from the ultra-flimsy to the long, more awkward ones.
- Roll-Up Bed Cover: the Tonneau offers a sleek way to cover your bed. Simply lock it into position and unroll to cover your luggage or other smaller items to keep them from encountering unforeseen rain.
- Voice Command: with the Uconnect voice command system, answering the phone, making calls and texts, even controlling your music has never been easier—and safer. The Gladiator gives you plenty of reasons not to look at your phone while driving.
- Strong Connections: the Gladiator’s SiriusXM Guardian and Roadside Assistance both connect to your phone so that you can have remote access from just about anywhere. This allows you to maintain control of your safety and entertainment even when you are outside of the vehicle.
- Never Get Lost Again: Jeep Gladiator has a wonderfully advanced navigation system that allows you to activate and control it using touchscreen or voice commands. Not only does the navigation system let you know where you are going and how to get there, but it also gives information on where ATMs, restaurants, and so much more are located.
